Muscle Building Workout Tips - How to Eat Right and Build Muscle Fast

While doing a muscle building workout, you will want to start a diet that will help you gain muscle mass. An appropriate diet is the first step in achieving your body's goals.

To get the most of your muscle building workout, you want to increase your calorie intake by eating foods high in nutritional value. Increasing your calorie intake does not mean eating whatever you want, but instead eating foods that give you optimal performance.

If you're confused on what foods have high nutritional value, turn to a food pyramid. You will want to eat high quality proteins (grilled chicken, turkey breast and egg whites), low fat dairy, a lot of fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. Instead of eating three large meals, eat small meals every 2 to 3 hours so you have a constant source of energy.

Eat at least two hours before your workout. You will want to eat slow digesting carbohydrates to keep your energy up throughout your routine. A bowl of oatmeal is a great option before the gym.

After your workout, you will want to eat your high quality protein within a half hour. A protein shake with creatine is a great option for getting your protein.

Here is a simple sample meal plan to get you started.

Breakfast can include three large scrambled eggs, a cup of oatmeal, and a large glass of orange juice. A couple hours later you can prepare a snack that consist of two pieces of whole-wheat toast with peanut butter and an apple.

Your lunch menu could be spaghetti with whole wheat pasta and the leanest ground beef you can find. Lean ground beef cost more, but it has less fat so it's worth the extra money. Have some asparagus with your spaghetti.

As a snack a few hours after lunch, you could have tuna on whole wheat crackers and a cup of grapes.

For dinner, eat two grilled chicken breasts, about a cup of broccoli and a baked potato. Before going to bed, low-fat cottage cheese is a great goodnight snack.

Now that you know what to eat for your muscle building workout, you will have better results with your weight lifting routine.
