Are You Making This Critical Abs Mistake?

The Incredible Ab Mistake - The Wrong Way to Get a Six-Pack

"He Was Doing 1000 Crunches Every Day...But Still Could Not See His Abs!!!"
Out of all of the questions we get from frustrated dieters and people who workout “how do I get a six pack” or “how to I get a lean belly” are by far the most frequently asked questions. Not only are abs one of the sexiest muscles when properly developed, but they are also one of the most challenging muscles to develop if you do not know what you are doing. Most of the time a guy will run up to me and say “Man I do 1000 crunches every night before I go to bed and I still don’t have any abs!”

One email that we received recently really got our attention because a young guy said that he was working out like crazy and doing 1000 crunches a night but he still did not have any visible abs.. He wrote:

“Hey SW, I have been working out very seriously for about two years now, and do 1000 crunches religiously every night. I figured that by really dedicating myself and doing crunches every day I would have decent abs by now, but I cannot see any visible results. Is there anything else I can do or something I can take? What kind of workout do you do for your abs?”

Of course, when someone asks us a question about abs we give them the same answer that we give to everyone. What did we tell him? Well we told him the “Secret” of course…the only real “Secret” to amazing abs.

We told this guy that doing crunches is good, it builds core strength and endurance, but doing crunches will NEVER allow you to see any definition in your abs. Definition is a result of having low bodyfat and low body fat can only be achieved by a sound nutrition plan and a good strategic exercise plan that is designed to boost your metabolic response. You will not crunch your way into having bigger abdominal muscles because abdominal muscular development is not the issue. The main issue is the layer of fat that is covering up all of the hard work you have done.

The same principle holds true for love handles. You can do thousands of side bends and ab twists, but your love handles will never go away. Many people make the mistake of believing that by doing hundreds or thousands of side bends, ab twists, and crunches that they will ultimately lose their belly fat and love handles. The only thing that removes this belly and love handle fat is a combination of increasing activity (through vigorous exercise) and through calorie manipulation.

If you want to begin the process of getting rid of your ugly belly fat the first thing to do is to quit doing hundreds of crunches and make better use of your time by training smarter. Use multi-joint compound exercises that work the major muscles and make necessary dietary changes.

Workout Routine to Blast Nasty Belly Fat and Melt Love Handles

We recommend working the abs about twice per week. If you are still planning on doing hundreds or thousands of reps then you obviously have missed the entire point of this article and should scroll up and start over. Don’t waste your time doing thousands of reps because it is not the reps that will give you great abs, it is from using a highly specialized FAT BURNING PROGRAM.

Here is one of our favorite ab routines that we have used in the past to help us develop abs. We typically workout abs two times per week and change the routine up each week so that the body cannot adjust to what we're doing. 10-20 reps per set is ideal.

Here is the routine:

1A. Hanging leg raises
3 sets, 15-20 reps
Superset with:
2A. Hanging knee twists
3 sets, 15-20 reps
(no rest between sets)

1B. Janda Situps
3 sets, 15-20 reps
Superset with
2B. Weighted Decline Crunches
3 sets, 15-20 reps
(no rest between sets)

Diet Secrets to Help You Burn Ugly Stomach Fat

The most important piece of the fat burning puzzle is nutrition; however it is often the most overlooked aspect by many lifters. The old saying goes “train for size, diet for cuts” still holds true today. You could do a million crunches and have the absolute best trainer and workout plan, but if your diet sucks, you can kiss seeing your abs goodbye. Here are some kitchen tips that may help finally reveal those lean abs you want so bad.

1. Cycle your carbs. For example have a High Carb Day, followed by two medium carb days, and one no carb day and continue that cycle for 30 days until you notice fat loss. My entire carb cycling program is in The 6 Pack Secret Program Manual.
2. Add a complete source of high quality protein to each meal (lean steak, chicken, fish, egg whites, whey protein, etc)
3. Eliminate virtually all saturated fats and incorporate healthy fats into your diet such as ( nuts and nut butters, seeds, flax oil, etc) Believe it or not but these essential fats actually help you burn more fat.
4. Choose only complex carbs such as yams, oatmeal, brown rice and whole grains. You may taper your carbs throughout the day with your biggest carb meals being your post-workout meal and breakfast.
5. Utilize proper meal timing strategies and space your meals out into 5-7 small meals throughout the day. Be sure to watch portion sizes.
6. Drink a gallon of water per day. Water is vital in the fat burning process.
7. Avoid all simple carbs such as white flour or sugar
8. Always maintain good food preparation strategies and prepare your food ahead of time so you do not get caught in a crunch and have to end up eating bad food.

The fact is, you can never work harder than your bad diet is working against you.
