Surfing is one of the most physically demanding sports out there, so it’s really important if you surf, or want to surf, you are in top physical shape. The sport has evolved so much in the last 10 to 20 years, and the level of surfing has skyrocketed. As a professional surfer, it is important to stay in optimal shape to maximize your time and performance in the water.

Professional surfer Holly Beck has never been one to hit the gym, much less have a workout routine, preferring to stay fit with surfing, skateboarding, yoga and hiking. But when she first learned about the TRX two years ago, she was intrigued. “A training tool I can use anywhere – even the great outdoors?” she thought when first introduced to the TRX. “I gotta give it a try.” Once she did, she quickly realized how effective and efficient the TRX is. “I was worked after my first 30 minute workout with it!”

Another huge selling feature for Holly is the portability of the TRX. I sometimes surf three, four, even five hours straight, and there is nothing quite like a good stretch at the end of a long day of surfing.”

Her favorite exercises include the TRX Lower Back Stretch with Rotation (shown below), TRX Figure-four Stretch and TRX Child’s Pose, all great for increasing total body flexibility. The workout also features a challenging series of surf-specific movements that includes the surfer’s pop-up drill, TRX Lunge and TRX Power Pull. Says Holly, “If I haven’t been in the water for a while, these exercises really provide a great surf fitness tune-up.”
